JOB DESCRIPTION
Duty station: 1st  Community Hospital
Department: Clinical Directorate
Position: Clinical Officer
Reports to: Head Clinical Team

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
The clinical officer shall be responsible for patient consultations and drug preparation in
line with the Uganda Clinical Guidelines and will assist in the delivery of high quality and
efficient medical care while ensuring that a consistent excellent level of services is
provided to patients and clients.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

• A Diploma in clinical medicine and Community Health.
•  Registration and practicing license from the relevant body.
•  Experience with the clinical risk management and safety protocols.
•  Willingness to adhere to all in house and legal regulations.
•  Excellent organizational and communication skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Examine, diagnose, and treat patients in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Perform minor surgical procedures and assist in major surgeries where applicable.
• Prescribe medication and administer treatment in line with national guidelines.
•  Maintain accurate patient records and medical histories.
•  Refer patients to appropriate specialists when necessary.
•  Educate patients and the community on disease prevention and health promotion.
•  Offer counseling on family planning, nutrition, chronic disease management, and other relevant health issues.
• Participate in the development and implementation of clinical protocols and standard operating procedures.
•  Compile reports on health service delivery, disease trends, and treatment outcomes.
• Ensure proper documentation and safekeeping of medical records.
•  Supervise junior healthcare workers, interns, and support staff.
•  Provide first-line emergency care, including resuscitation and stabilization of critical patients.
• Participate in emergency and disaster preparedness and response efforts.
•  Monitor and evaluate clinical services to ensure adherence to quality standards.
•  Participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions and trainings.
•  Implement infection prevention and control measures.
•  Any other duties will be assigned from time to time.
